Mount Olive residents participating in the Garden State Community Energy Cooperative (GSCEC) are saving money on their electricity supply through a 19-month contract with Direct Energy that began in March 2026.

Budget billing is available through Direct Energy. For residents who already used JCP&L budget billing when they joined:
- Mount Olive savings: More than $282,000 combined from March through August 2026 for residents enrolled in the Standard Option—an average of $8.49 per month.
- Total program savings: More than $937,000 combined during those six months across Mount Olive, Lincoln Park, Jefferson and Summit.

Budget billing is available through Direct Energy. For residents who already used JCP&L budget billing when they joined:
- JCP&L settled the previous electricity supply budget plan, resulting in either a credit or a balance owed. That amount remains on the JCP&L bill until used up or paid.
- Direct Energy started a new budget plan using the resident’s previous 12 months of electricity usage.
- According to the emails, Direct Energy must review budget amounts at least once every 12 months. Payments may increase or decrease based on usage, but that adjustment does not trigger a lump-sum settlement, or “true-up.”
